Ministry of Women's Affairs Condemns Violent Behavior and Inappropriate Language Used Against Women

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Women's Affairs condemns all acts that are violent, immoral, and detrimental to the honor, dignity and values of Cambodian women, and which provide a bad example to the youth and next generation of Cambodia.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Women's Affairs on Thursday, 16 February 2023, the Ministry states that in recent times, there has been an increase in the use of inappropriate words and immoral actions on social media among a small number of individuals that undermine the honor and dignity of Cambodian women, and discredit the public's efforts to promote and protect the rights of all women with no discrimination.

The Ministry of Women's Affairs urges individuals who have personal disputes to make peaceful settlements and avoid the use of abusive, immoral words in order to resolve issues responsibly.

At the same time, the Ministry also thanked the public for expressing dissatisfaction with this rising trend, as the public's involvement contributes to the protection of the honor and image of the country. The Ministry believes that all members of the public, both at home and abroad, will continue to actively participate with the Royal Government in raising the morality and dignity of the Cambodian people, as well as maintaining the honor of Cambodian women.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, 14 February 2023, civil society organizations requested the Ministry of Women's Affairs, as well as other relevant Ministries, to take strict action against a man named Pheng Vannak for using inappropriate words, insulting and harassing a female journalist. They called to prevent the distribution of any content that insults women and individuals of all genders, in accordance with the Media Code of Conduct for Reporting Violence Against Women.
